How to make money online

Make money online through websites like Upwork, Fiverr and Freelancer.com. These sites offer a variety of freelance job opportunities, such as writing, programming, design, marketing, data entry and virtual assistants. Fluent in another language? Check out sites like Gengo or Blend Express, or create a business with your own site. No matter what type of freelancing you do, keep an eye on the going rate for the type of work you provide so you know what to charge.

A recent report by Freelancer.com found that creative writing jobs saw the fastest growth in listings on its site in the second quarter of 2023, up 58 percent. And while creative artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly being used for content creation, it can’t completely do the work of human authors. Companies are looking for writers who know how to edit AI content and who have at least a basic understanding of search engine optimization — learning or improving SEO skills can be a lucrative career. Some freelancers are charging $100 an hour or more for their freelance writing services.

Upwork takes 48 hours to approve your profile. But keep in mind that it may take time to land your first freelance gig.

Payment varies by site. The timeline for earning income on Upwork depends on the type of payment. Hourly contracts have a weekly billing cycle and you can withdraw money after 10 days.Fixed price contracts have a five-day waiting period. Project catalog contracts allow payment refunds after five days. And the bonus payout also becomes available after five days. In each case, the client should review your work. On Fiverr, you get paid when a work order is completed, but you can’t withdraw funds for 14 days. (Wait times are shorter for top sellers and Fiverr Studio members.)
